About
Although Reiki-like healing energy is believed to have existed for thousands of years, Mikao Usui (Usui Sensei), a Japanese Buddhist, developed the system of Usui Reiki Ryoho in 1922. He proposed that the following precepts should be spoken morning and night as part of one’s own healing:

Just for today I will not be angry
Just for today I will not worry
Just for today I will be grateful
Just for today I will be true to my way and being
Just for today I will show compassion to myself and others

Our Team
We are a team of volunteers dedicated to sharing compassion through Reiki in our community. All of our professional practitioners are certified in at least Reiki First and Second Degree levels. We believe the volunteer model better suits our goal of making Reiki affordable and accessible to all who need it.
Our volunteers deserve a healthy life–work balance. Because of this, we maintain limited schedules and may not always be able to accommodate requests for a specific practitioner or your preferred appointment day or time.

Cofounder, Master Practitioner and Trainer
Tod Johnston
he/him
Tod has sought to make a positive difference for much of his adult life. In 2000, he completed a Massage Therapy program and was Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCTMB).
A few years later, a friend introduced Tod to Reiki by offering a free session—and his passion for the practice was ignited. Although initially skeptical, he soon came to appreciate the power of Reiki and the benefits it can offer.
In 2003/2004, he completed Reiki training with Sangeet Khalsa at The Healing Source in Phoenix, AZ. He was certified in First, Second, and Third Degree as a Personal Mastery Practitioner in the Usui Shiki Ryoho System of Natural Healing.
In 2006, Tod left corporate America, where he had worked as a Project Manager, to pursue his dream by opening a licensed Massage Therapy & Reiki practice. His business served hundreds of clients until he chose to close it in 2016 in order to move to Port Townsend.
In 2025, Tod completed First, Second, and Master level training in the Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki System of Natural Healing, taught by Kelly Larson at Healing Touch in Port Townsend, WA.
In 2026, he had the honor of training with William Lee Rand, developer of Holy Fire® Reiki and founder of The International Center for Reiki Training . He was certified as a Holy Fire® III Karuna Reiki® Master.
Outside of Reiki, Tod enjoys daily walks with his husband Mark and their loving dog. He loves backpacking and hiking in the beautiful wilderness of Washington State and enjoys frequent travel. He also values his daily meditation practice and continues to seek growth on his spiritual path.

Co-founder & Practitioner
Mark Adams
he/him
After over 30 years working in the airline industry as a flight attendant and recurrent training instructor, Mark retired from corporate life. He was fortunate to have had a career that allowed time to be involved in a wide range of volunteer work, which he continues today.
For the past five years, Mark served as a Guardian ad Litem for Jefferson County Juvenile and Family Court Services, acting as an advocate for children in Dependency cases. In addition, he continues to volunteer with St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Port Townsend, helping provide free soup to the community. Before moving to Port Townsend, he volunteered as a narrator and sound engineer for Insight for the Blind in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and supported Meals on Wheels in Monterey, California.
Mark’s interest in Reiki began when his previous partner underwent chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer. A nurse trained in Reiki offered to teach Mark some basic techniques he could use at home. When he did, he noticed that Reiki seemed to help moderate some of the worst side effects of treatment.
More recently, Mark’s husband Tod reintroduced him to Reiki. After witnessing the powerful effects of Tod’s practice, Mark’s passion for healing was reignited. In 2025, he completed First and Second Degree Reiki training in the Usui/Holy Fire® III Reiki System of Natural Healing, taught by Kelly Larson at Healing Touch in Port Townsend, WA.
Mark moved to the Pacific Northwest drawn by the region’s awe-inspiring natural beauty. He is an avid hiker and delights in the many day hikes just a short drive from home. Mark also enjoys cooking and believes that sharing food with friends and family is an act of love. Above all, he treasures time spent with friends, his husband, and their large, loving dog.
Welcome Reiki Master Lee Beaven

Master Practitioner
Lee Beaven
she/her
Lee Beaven began her Reiki journey in 1991 with her Reiki I certification in Virginia Beach. She later completed Reiki II and received her Reiki Master attunement in 2025. Although her practice unfolded gradually over the years, her connection with Reiki and her personal self-practice remained a steady and quiet thread throughout her life.
Lee is drawn to Reiki for its simplicity and depth. She experiences Reiki as a gentle support for the body’s natural state of balance, helping to calm the nervous system and soften the movement from fight-or-flight into rest and receptivity. From this place, the body often remembers how to realign. Reiki does not “fix” us — it supports our own innate capacity for healing.
Growing up with a father who was a pediatrician, Lee was introduced early to the connection between thought, feeling, and physical well-being. She holds a deep respect for the wisdom within each person and for the quiet strength that emerges when we reconnect with our own inner sovereignty and heart space. From this place, alignment unfolds naturally.
Alongside her Reiki practice, Lee continues to work as a life and leadership coach and to explore her love of watercolor painting. She lives in Port Townsend and offers Reiki as a quiet continuation of a lifelong path.
